Countless conversations at the dinner table have begun with this earnest request from one of our children. It is usually followed with, "Sure, what would you like to talk about?" The reply might be, "I want to talk about taking care of the dogs," or "I want to talk about selling the puppies," or even "I want to talk about getting another dog." No matter how these conversations begin, they are always lively and enriching.
Our story begins in 2023 when we purchased Maverick and Gretta, two Golden Retriever puppies. After carefully considering breeders from Kentucky to Illinois, we selected Maverick from a breeder of gentle, healthy, well-proportioned Goldens and Gretta, whose breeder is painstakingly selective in which dogs they chose to breed. Gretta comes from a champion bloodline.
These two have been steadfast companions to our children, protectors of our chickens, and constant sources of joy and sometimes, minor frustrations (we've lost some shoes, gloves and hats to these two!) Their dispositions are both different, but equally gentle.
Maverick Blaze Roch
Maverick is a sponge for affection. He loves to be petted and played with has a bit of a jealous streak whenever Gretta is the one receiving attention.
Gretta Frances Roch
"Gretta Girl," as she is affectionately known, is more laid back but just as curious and loving as Maverick. She will lay calmly when the young kids pull her tail, smother her with hugs or try to ride her like their own little horse.
